Talk About Mediation With a Lawyer
There are many reasons that people pursue mediation. Many do it do save money. Others do it because they have greater control over the outcome by creating solutions that work for both them and the other party.
At our Stamford law firm — the Law Offices of Piazza, Simmons & Grant, L.L.C., — attorney Anthony Piazza is a former president of the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association and is trained in mediation by the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. While he focuses on matrimonial mediation, he does other types of mediation as well. This work is also done for Connecticut state and federal courts.
Mediation in Divorce
Often, mediation is the route to a reasonably resolved divorce or legal separation settlement when both parties understand the benefits of this way of resolving issues, including child custody, child support, spousal support and division of marital property. Contact the Law Offices of Piazza, Simmons & Grant, L.L.C. to schedule a consultation on your Connecticut divorce law questions and learn how we can help you.
Mediation is not effective in every situation. There are some divorces that are better suited to litigation. If your spouse or domestic partner is not willing to engage in reasonable negotiations, we are prepared to advocate aggressively for your well-being in Connecticut courts.
What to Expect in Divorce Mediation
Mediation works best in situations where spouses are willing to set aside their differences and make intelligent decisions about their future and the future of their children. It is often done in a series of sessions, where spouses can address one or more issues in each session.
With the help of an attorney, you will create a complaint, petition of service and separation agreement that will contain statements describing the decisions you made — decisions like a complete parenting plan and division of all marital property. This will then be submitted to the court and is usually affirmed by the judge in a hearing.
